Chocolate Loaf Cake

Sharing is caring!

You can not beat a slice of cake and cuppa after a busy day and this chocolate loaf cake is going to hit the spot every time!

Now, in this house we do enjoy a tasty Madeira cake, however, personally, I think this cake even tops that. With its light texture and chocolate bites, it is the perfect slice for any chocolate lover. Personally, I never decorate the top of this cake, if you are after a little more chocolate though, why not add some chocolate buttercream or frosting to the top?

What equipment do I need?

  • Weighing scales
  • Measuring spoons
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Electric whisk or mixer
  • Sieve
  • 2 lb loaf tin
  • Parchment/baking paper
  • Wire cooling rack

Other than my KitchenAid, none of the kitchen equipment I have is fancy or expensive, I use just what I have picked up over the years. This is the one thing I love about cooking and baking, it is not all about the equipment but about the passion that comes with doing it.

Can I switch the dark chocolate to milk chocolate?

Yes you can, personally I prefer milk chocolate however I didn’t find dark chocolate in here too bitter. I know however that some people are not fans of dark chocolate, so switch it out for milk chocolate or go for a half/half split.

Although this recipe calls for chocolate chunks, you could also use chocolate drops as an alternative if that is all you are able to get your hands on.

How long does chocolate loaf cake keep?

If your household does not demolish it in the first 24 hours, I think you are on to a winner!

In reality, in an air-tight container for up to 4 days. You can transport the slices in your lunch box for example in cling film or foil.

What do you serve with chocolate loaf cake?

This cake is best served with a cup of tea in my opinion, but that doesn’t mean it is the right one though. Both my children love their slices slightly warmed in the microwave and served with ice cream.
