Easy Cookies In The Air Fryer – How to make plus tips!
Cookies, which are one of the easiest treats to make at home, have become even easier thanks to our air fryer. Now you are probably wondering, can I bake cookies in an air fryer? If you are, then the answer is yes! You don’t even need to have an air fryer with a bake function, we did ours on the normal air fryer setting.
In the air fryer, these cook faster than they would in the oven, so you do need to adjust your cooking time to suit how it cooks.
Right, let’s get on to the most important part, the recipes!
Air fryer chocolate chip cookies recipe
Ingredients –
- 320g Plain flour
- 150g Demerara sugar
- 50g Caster sugar
- 115g Unsalted Butter
- 200g Chocolate chips (your choice of flavours or you could switch out for 200g of your favourite chocolate in chunks)
- 1 Tsp Baking powder
- 1 Tsp Bicarbonate of soda
- 1 Egg
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Method –
- Cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy, I do this in our KitchenAid but you can use any stand mixer, or electric mixer or do it by hand.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract slowly, too quickly will make the mixture split.
- Add in the rest of the dry ingredients apart from the chocolate and give a good mix.
- Finally, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Line your air fryer basket with a piece of parchment paper/baking paper.
- Roll your cookies into 12 individual balls.
- Pop the cookie dough balls into your air fryer, we are using the Ninja Foodie MAX Duel Zone and each basket draw takes 3 cookies. This allows them enough space to cook without becoming one.
- Cook at 160c for 8 minutes and then check them, you want them to go golden brown and crunchy at the edges but not hard. As they cook they will firm up, if you overcook them, you will find them really crunchy. If you need to pop them back in, do it for a minute at a time until you work out what works best in your air fryer.
- Transfer to a wire rack and leave to cool.
- Enjoy!

Can you adapt this chocolate chip cookie dough?
You absolutely can to suit your flavour preference or what you have. Here are some examples of swaps that will alter the flavour slightly but still give you amazing cookies.
Flavourings – I love the taste of vanilla, especially in cakes and cooked but some people don’t like it. Why not try switching it out for either salted caramel or orange essence for a different flavour? Alternatively, you could just leave it out completely.
Sugar – For this recipe, I use caster sugar and demerara sugar, but you could switch these out for light brown sugar and granulater or white sugar if that is what you have in your pantry.
Chocolate – The recipe asks for chocolate chips but you can use your favourite chocolate bar chopped into chocolate chunks or maybe chocolate pieces such as mini eggs, Smarties or M&M’s. Whatever you like will bake the best cookies! It will also fill your entire kitchen with the smell of warm gooey chocolate chip cookies, perfect!
Can you freeze cookie dough mix?
Yes, you can and it will be good in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Once you have made your cookie dough, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and then scoop your cookie dough balls onto the sheet. You can either do this using a cookie scoop, or an ice cream scoop or if you are like me, I just cut into equal portions and roll into balls.
Pop this tray in the freezer until frozen and then transfer it to a freezer bag to keep. Then you can just get out the portions you want when you are ready to bake them. You can either bring the frozen cookie dough back to room temperature before baking or just bake them from frozen.
How to store homemade cookies
If you have any leftover cookies after your family has raided the kitchen, then you can store your cookies for up to 5 days in an airtight container. Ours never lasted that long!
The best thing about this recipe is you can also cook them in the oven if you do not have an air fryer and will probably be able to cook an entire batch of cookies in one go rather than in small batches. Just make sure you cook it with the oven on low and keep an eye on how they are cooking, once they get crispy edges, they are ready to come out. Either way will give you delicious cookies!
