Honey And Mustard Gammon In The Air Fryer
We love using our air fryer for meals, it is just so much quicker, easier and cheaper than popping the oven or cooker on and this honey and mustard gammon cooked in the air fryer is perfect for those midweek meals that you might want to make with minimal effort or even as a dish over Christmas and New Year.
Our pressure cooker gammon recipe is always popular, as is our slow cooker cola gammon but I am sure, more and more people now own an air fryer compared to a pressure cooker and it is just as quick to do in the air fryer as it is in the pressure cooker. The air fryer is a perfect appliance for cooking meat, especially when you are short on time.
Cooking time may vary a little with this depending on the size of your gammon, so it is worth just taking your time to make sure it is properly cooked. However, don’t panic if it is not cooked when you carve it, it can be popped back in the air fryer for a few minutes when sliced to finish it off. If you have a small gammon joint, you may wish to reduce the time a little bit.
Please see below the recipe, this is a printable recipe card should you wish to keep a copy for future cooking!

Tips for this air fryer gammon recipe
If like me you are a little anxious when it comes to cooking honey in an air fryer, don’t be. It is all about cooking it slow and steady, that way it doesn’t catch or burn.
Depending on the space in your air fryer basket, you may find you want to remove the stand if you have one (our Ninja Foodi has removable trays but different air fryer models offer different options). It just lowers the gammon joint away from the heating element at the top. I haven’t found a need to do this so far with ours as it is not that close, so make a judgement based on your gammon height and air fryer.
What mustard is best to use on Gammon?
With this recipe, I always use wholegrain mustard, however, if you are not a fan of the grains, you can use Dijon mustard.
Personally I don’t think either massively impacts the flavours of this honey and mustard gammon but tweak to your preference. If you are a fan of the honey and mustard glaze, you could always make a little extra and then with the remaining glaze add to your gammon after it has been sliced.
How long can you store gammon after cooking?
You can store leftover ham in the fridge for 3-4 days after cooking, just allow it to completely cool before storing it in an airtight container in the fridge.
If you would rather freeze cooked gammon, you can do the same as above, just allow it to completely cool and then ensure it is well wrapped. Using parchment paper between slices is a great way to store this. I think for future meals I may use a larger gammon joint so I can have some leftover for future use.
What sides work well with cooked gammon?
Cooked gammon is a versatile and flavorful dish that pairs well with a variety of sides, allowing you to create a balanced and satisfying meal. Here are some side dishes that complement gammon beautifully:
1. Roast Potatoes
- Why It Works: Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, roast potatoes provide a perfect contrast to the tender, salty gammon.
- Tip: Season with rosemary and garlic for extra flavor.
2. Mashed Potatoes
- Why It Works: Creamy mashed potatoes offer a smooth, buttery texture that complements the richness of the gammon.
- Tip: Add a bit of mustard or horseradish to the mash for a subtle kick.
3. Green Beans with Almonds
- Why It Works: Green beans add a fresh, crisp element to the meal, while toasted almonds bring a nice crunch and nutty flavor.
- Tip: Sauté the beans in butter and garlic for added depth.
4. Honey-Glazed Carrots
- Why It Works: The sweetness of honey-glazed carrots pairs wonderfully with the savory gammon, creating a harmonious balance.
- Tip: Add a sprinkle of thyme or parsley for a herby finish.
5. Braised Red Cabbage
- Why It Works: The slight acidity and sweetness of braised red cabbage cut through the richness of the gammon, providing a refreshing contrast.
- Tip: Cook with apples and a splash of vinegar to enhance the flavor.
6. Cauliflower Cheese
- Why It Works: The creamy, cheesy sauce of cauliflower cheese complements the savory gammon, creating a comforting and indulgent side dish.
- Tip: Use a mix of cheeses like cheddar and Gruyère for a more complex flavor.
7. Peas and Mint
- Why It Works: Peas bring a sweet, fresh flavor that pairs well with gammon, while mint adds a refreshing touch.
- Tip: Lightly butter the peas and stir in some chopped fresh mint.
8. Buttered Leeks
- Why It Works: Soft, buttery leeks offer a mild onion-like flavor that complements the gammon without overpowering it.
- Tip: Cook the leeks slowly to caramelize them slightly for extra sweetness.
9. Yorkshire Pudding
- Why It Works: Yorkshire puddings are light and airy, perfect for soaking up any juices from the gammon.
- Tip: Serve them hot out of the oven for maximum fluffiness.
10. Coleslaw
- Why It Works: A crunchy, tangy coleslaw adds texture and a refreshing element to the meal, balancing the richness of the gammon.
- Tip: Use a mix of red and green cabbage for a more colourful presentation.
This is the perfect holiday ham recipe or even just for an easy Sunday dinner. If you are unable to get your hands on a ham joint, why not try the recipe with gammon steaks? Just remember to reduce the time for cooking if you do, they will need less time than a whole joint.

This is mouthwatering. I am trying it out this weekend. Thanks for the recipe
It looks delicious! Honestly, I’ve been thinking about buying an air fryer for a while, but I already have so many kitchen appliances. However, seeing the tasty dishes you can make with it, I’ll probably give in and get one eventually.
