10 Best CRIMPiT Filling Ideas & Easy CRIMPiT Recipes (UK)

Sharing is caring!

If you’re looking for CRIMPiT filling ideas, these are 10 of our favourites that we’ve actually tried at home.

We’ve used our CRIMPiT for everything from quick lunches and after-school snacks to sweet treats. The kids even take them cold in their lunchboxes as an alternative to sandwiches, while I usually prefer mine toasted.

Below you’ll find our favourite hot, cold and sweet CRIMPiT recipes, including pizza pockets, sweet chilli chicken, tuna mayo and s’mores, plus a few tips I’ve picked up from using our CRIMPiT at home.

Our favourite CRIMPiT filling ideas

If you’ve not used a CRIMPiT before, it’s a simple little gadget that seals your bread or wrap around the filling to create a pocket that you can eat hot or cold.

I usually toast mine, although we’ve also cooked them in the air fryer and oven. The kids quite often take theirs cold to school as an alternative to sandwiches.

The best thing about them is experimenting with the fillings. If it works in a sandwich or toastie, there’s a good chance it’ll work in a CRIMPiT too! These are the combinations we’ve enjoyed most.

10 Easy CRIMPiT Filling Ideas

These are some of our favourite combinations, but feel free to adapt them with the ingredients and flavours your family enjoys.

Hot CRIMPiT fillings –

  • Beans and cheese – Keep it simple with this one and just go straight for the beans and cheese. Be careful not to overfill your pocket, though, as you may have beans escaping!
  • Pizza pocket – I love these as you can adapt them to your choice, for me it is straightforward with just ham, cheese and tomato puree, but you can adapt it to your taste.
  • Sweet chilli chicken, cheese & red onion – This is my personal favourite. I use cooked chicken with cheese, sliced red onion and a drizzle of sweet chilli sauce. Don’t overdo the sauce or it can make the CRIMPiT harder to seal.
  • BBQ Cheese – A healthy dollop of BBQ sauce and cheese is all you need; however, I do love red onion added to mine.

Cold CRIMPiT fillings –

  • Tuna mayo and salad – Mix a tin of tuna, some mayo, spring onion, small chunks of pepper and cucumber in a bowl and pack out your CRIMPiT—perfect filling for lunch on the go at work.
  • Corned beef and pickle – So simple but delicious!
  • Beef and horseradish sauce – Leftover roast on the go, this pocket will give you a little warm feeling as you combine the perfect match! If you don’t have leftover beef, I find it just as tasty as the sliced beef you can get in the supermarkets.
  • Ham salad – If you can make it into a sandwich, it will go in your CRIMPiT. Pack your favourite salad choices into your thin with a healthy amount of ham.

Sweet CRIMPiT Desserts

  • S’mores – This is the kids’ favourite choice, they go for a healthy amount of chocolate spread and a few marshmallows. Heated up in the toaster for a tasty, sweet treat.
  • Banana and chocolate – Slices of banana with chocolate spread, like above, popped into the thin and toasted for a sweet kick!

As you can see, there are lots of CRIMPiT recipes for you to try out and each one is just as tasty as the next!

How to Make the Perfect CRIMPiT (Tips, Cooking Methods & Variations)

How to Assemble CRIMPiT Fillings Without Leaks

One of the most common questions about CRIMPiT recipes is how to stop fillings escaping. Here’s what works best:

  • Don’t overfill – 2–3 tablespoons of filling is ideal.
  • Leave a border – Keep at least 1cm clear around the edge before sealing.
  • Avoid too much sauce – Thick spreads (like cream cheese or pesto) work better than watery sauces.
  • Pre-cook wet ingredients – For example, cook mushrooms or spinach first to reduce moisture.
  • Seal firmly – Press down evenly for a tight seal before removing the wrap edge.

If using cheese, placing it near the centre rather than at the edges also helps prevent leaks when melted.

Best Ways to Cook a CRIMPiT

Different cooking methods give slightly different results:

Air Fryer (Crispiest Option)

  • 180°C
  • 6–8 minutes
  • Flip halfway through

Perfect for crispy pizza or cheese fillings.

Toaster

  • Medium setting
  • 2–3 cycles depending on thickness

Quick and convenient for lunch.

Oven

  • 180°C fan
  • 8–10 minutes

Great if you’re batch cooking several CRIMPiT wraps at once.

Can you use bread in your CRIMPiT?

Yes! I’ve tried normal sliced bread in our CRIMPiT and it does work, although personally I prefer using Thins.

If you use ordinary bread, I’ve found that adding a tiny amount of water around the edge where the CRIMPiT seals helps the bread hold together.

You will have quite a bit of bread left over after cutting it to size, so don’t throw it away. I use the leftovers to make breadcrumbs or croutons rather than wasting them.

More CRIMPiT filling ideas to try

Once you’ve got the hang of using your CRIMPiT, it’s really easy to start experimenting with whatever you have in the fridge.

Leftovers are a great place to start. Things like leftover roast chicken, beef or even a little curry can make a tasty filling and are a good way of using up food that might otherwise go to waste.

For breakfast, I’d try combinations such as bacon and cheese or scrambled egg and cheese. You could also make a breakfast-style CRIMPiT with sausage, although I’d make sure any meat is fully cooked before adding it.

Sweet fillings are always popular in our house too. Chocolate spread and banana is one of our favourites, but you could also experiment with jam, fruit or marshmallows.

In fact, some of the best ideas have come from readers in the comments on this post. Raspberry jam and custard sounds particularly good, and I’m still tempted to try rhubarb and custard!

The easiest way to come up with new CRIMPiT recipes is to think about the sandwiches, toasties and leftovers you already enjoy and see whether they work in a CRIMPiT.

Frequently asked questions about CRIMPiT

Can you put a CRIMPiT in the air fryer?

Yes. We’ve cooked CRIMPiTs in the air fryer as well as using the toaster and oven. The air fryer is particularly good when you want the outside nice and crispy.

Just be careful with fillings that contain lots of sauce or melted cheese, as overfilling your CRIMPiT can cause the filling to escape while it cooks.

How do you stop CRIMPiT fillings from leaking?

The biggest thing I’ve learnt is not to overfill them. It’s tempting to squeeze in as much filling as possible, but you’ll get a much better seal if you leave some space around the edge.

Be particularly careful with wet fillings and sauces. Keep these towards the centre and make sure the edges are clear before pressing the CRIMPiT firmly to create the seal.

Can you make CRIMPiTs ahead of time?

You can prepare some CRIMPiT fillings in advance, which makes them handy for quick lunches. I prefer assembling them fairly close to when we’re going to eat them, particularly when using wetter fillings, as this helps stop the bread or Thins from becoming soggy.

Cold fillings are also useful for lunchboxes – my kids have taken CRIMPiTs to school cold as an alternative to sandwiches.

Our favourite CRIMPiT filling

We’ve tried lots of different combinations in our CRIMPiT, but if I had to pick just one, my favourite would be sweet chilli chicken.

I love the combination of chicken, melted cheese, red onion and sweet chilli sauce. It’s got a little bit of a kick without being too spicy, and when it’s toasted the cheese melts into the chicken and sauce. It’s definitely the filling I come back to most often.

We’ve only scratched the surface of the different fillings you can make, though, and that’s part of what we love about our CRIMPiT – it’s an easy way to turn whatever we have in the fridge into something a little different.

I’m also still planning to try a steak and cheese version using stewing beef to see if I can create something a little like a Greggs bake. When I finally give it a go, I’ll come back and update this post with how it turned out!

If you have a CRIMPiT, I’d love to know what you put in yours. Leave your favourite filling combination in the comments – I’m always looking for new ideas to try.
