We were recently asked by Swizzels to create a recipe using their yummy sweets. Now I am a huge fan of Swizzels and thought this would be an easy task for me, sweets and baking, what is there not to love? However, I underestimated the challenge! I have spent a while trying to come up with a recipe that did the sweets justice, I didn’t want to just stick some sweets on top of a cake, I wanted them to be the star of the show.

Now, Swizzels may be most popular for their Love Heart sweets or Drumstick lollies, however, my absolute favourite is the Drumstick Squashies, I can eat a sharing bag to myself without a second thought!

Whilst baking with the kids, they asked to make some of our crispy cakes and that got me thinking. As the Squashies are squashy like a marshmallow, would these work well in a rice crispy square? Well, the answer is a resounding yes, they are absolutely divine!

Now, this recipe is so easy to make however they can be a little tricky whilst trying to flatten them out in the tin. I underestimated how sticky the mixture would be and battled for a few minutes to get it flattened. I then realised that once it had started to cool down a little, it was easier to manage and shape.

The kids have absolutely demolished these and I think I was lucky enough to be able to get a bite of one of these.

One of the best things about this recipe though is how easy it is to do, perfect for getting the kids involved and taking part in the kitchen. If you prefer the Apple and Cherry Squashies, you can switch these out for a different taste. You can check out their range here on their online store.
