Chocolate Twist Christmas Tree Recipe
The end of the year is fast approaching and what better way to get ready than baking a Chocolate Twist Christmas Tree?! Simple, elegant, yummy and will likely be eaten quicker than it took you to make it. A recipe that children of all ages can get involved with and can be a show-stopping treat at the Christmas parties with minimal effort.
We use chocolate hazelnut spread in our recipe but you can adapt it to suit your taste and switch it out for just plain chocolate spread, biscoff spread or your favourite type of spread. It is such an easy recipe to do, using simple ingredients. This is why it is perfect this holiday season.
Chocolate Twist Christmas Tree Recipe
Prep time – 10 minutes
Bake time – 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 pack of ready-rolled store-bought puff pastry
- 2 tbs Chocolate Spread
- 1 Egg (beaten)
- Icing Sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to gas mark 6 (180c).
- Roll the sheets of puff pastry out onto baking paper and cut into 2 even sheets.
- Place one sheet onto a baking sheet that is lined with parchment paper.
- Soften the chocolate spread for 10 seconds in a Microwave.
- Cut one sheet into a Christmas tree shape with a sharp knife and top with chocolate spread using the back of a spoon.
- Cover with the second sheet of puff pastry and trim to the same Christmas tree shape.
- Leave a small triangle at the top of the tree, then cut lines 1cm apart along both edges of the tree. These will be the tree branches so be careful not to cut all the way to the middle of the triangle (where the trunk would be).
- Twist each branch away from you and pinch the end into the baking paper.
- If you have some leftover puff pastry, you could use a star cookie cutter to add a star to the top of the tree.
- Brush with the beaten egg to give it a good egg wash.
- Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Leave to cool, sprinkle with icing sugar, serve and enjoy!

If you have a bit more time on your hands or would prefer to make your own homemade puff pastry, go for it. This recipe works well with both, so pick which you prefer to use.
Also if you would prefer you can replace the beaten egg wash with melted butter.
Alternative fillings for a Christmas tree pastry
If you are not a fan of the Nutella puff pastry Christmas tree then you can easily adapt this recipe to suit your favourite flacvours, some you could try are:
- Biscoff spread
- Peanut butter
- Jam
- Pesto and cheese (for those who prefer a savoury option).
This is one of my favourite things about Christmas time, you can find so many recipes that can be adapted to suit your flavour preference and bring a little bit of magic this festive season.
If you are after the perfect Christmas morning breakfast or maybe a little treat before Christmas Eve, then why not give this a try with the kids. This recipe is great for older children to help out and make. You could use a pizza cutter to help get the shape of the Christmas tree without the need for a sharp knife.
Just watch out though, there will be a fight for who can get the little star at the top of the tree trunk as they always turn out to be the best parts!
